Canmore (Upper) Falls

August 28, 2015

The last time I was at the dog park in Canmore I was searching around on the Highline Trail.  While out and about along the trail passing by the bikers, my girlfriend and little friendly fluff ball were playing in the park with other dogs.  They picked up on the scent of a nearby spring that drops a small waterfall into a creek.  This day I set out to search for this waterfall.  Sadly I didn't find the spring (Grassi Spring Falls) I sought, instead what I believed to be the waterfall they spoke of, was actually another waterfall along Canmore Creek.  I now believe I uncovered where this separate trail to the spring exists among the forest of the Quarry Lake Park.

As promised I would return to the Canmore Falls area during the summer months to capture the waterfall during its full flow.  I wasn't disappointed, as there was no snow in sight this time which made photographing the waterfall much more elegant.

Canmore Falls

With two waterfalls on one of the inter-town trails, what more excuse does one need to get out and be adventurous.  Across the road from Quarry Lake (the off leash dog park) and a really short jaunt from joining the tourists in town these waterfalls are truly one of the easiest to access.  With the winter settling the area was much better to attempt to access, however still not inconceivable.

I would mention though that the area has much more to offer in the summer months.  As the trees and surrounding vicinity would be more complete and vibrant with colour.  Nonetheless I still opted to stop by and have a peek.  The first thing I noticed was a nice perch for me to sit and take my shots of the waterfall.  It couldn't be more inviting for me to do so on such a nice day.
